Contribution of Physical Education to essential stimulation of children with down syndrome

This study aims to verify the Physical Education professionals contribution to the essential stimulation in children with Down syndrome. The concepts of “mental deficiency”, “Down syndrome”, “essential stimulation”, “children development periods” were researched in literature, as well as how the Physical Education professional may contribute to essential stimulation. It is a descriptive study, whose population comprised six Physical Education professionals working in specific area of children with Down syndrome in the region of Maringá, state of Paraná, Brazil. To the data gathering a questionnaire with open and closed questions was used, previously tested for validity, objectivity and language clarity. Most of the subjects assert the tremendous importance of essential stimulation work with Down-syndrome children, being a specialized Physical Education professional capable of great contribution in all aspects.Downloads
