Sports does not educate by itself

Abstract

Resulting from a bibliographical study, the aim of the present article is to give through the cultural expression of capoeira and its increasing presence in social life, a vision of educational sports or school sports. It may be a guideline to the perception of how capoeira may be incorporated into the teaching of School Physical Education as another option of didactic and pedagogical content of great importance for the development of psycho-physico-social skills of the students in our Brazilian schools. A conception of capoeira from the anthropological point of view and supported by authors who deal with the educational sports issue is here discussed.
