Abstract

The aim of this study is to compare children’s body culture at home and at school, with special emphasis on Physical Education classes. This case study research was carried out through guided interviews with schoolchildren, parents and teacher. Videos of the children’s daily life and their Physical Education classes were also confronted with the data provided by the literature. The analysis identified a strong influence of the cultural industry on the children’s body culture both at school and out of school. Physical Education classes were also pervaded by these hegemonic values of the cultural industry and lacking a critical approach.

    Possui graduação em Licenciatura Plena: Educação Física pela Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (1982), mestrado em Métodos e Técnicas de Ensino pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (1986) e doutorado em História da Educação Social Contemporânea - Universidad de Barcelona (1996). Atualmente é professora titular da Universidade Estadual de Maringá (Graduação de Educação Física e Mestrado em Educação). Tem experiência na área de Educação, com ênfase em Educação Social, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: história da infância, culturas infantis, brincadeiras, direitos da infância e adolescência, fundamentos históricos e filosóficos da educação física brasileira.
