The objective of this study was to analyze the validation of an instrument based on direct observation (SOFIT) to evaluate the physical activity (PA) level during physical education classes. Participated in this study 33 adolescents (17 boys), aged from 14 to 17 years old (mean=15.6±0.4 years). The capacity of SOFIT’s code system in discriminating different PA levels in controlled situations and during Physical Activity classes was evaluated in relation to heart rate (HR). The SOFIT’s code system showed capacity to evaluate different PA levels both during simulated situations and Physical Education classes as well as to have a good correlation with HR. Hence the SOFIT is an applicable, low cost and valid method to evaluate PA during Physical Education classes and should be used to this purpose on future studies.Downloads
