Abstract

The present work deals with the Law nº 11.340/2006, known as Lei Maria da Penha, is a that aims to
protect women from domestic and family violence. The law gained this name due to the fight of the pharmacist
from the State of Ceará Maria da Penha to see condemned her aggressor. It aims, in a broad sense, to demonstrate
that domestic violence against women occurs daily, confronting human rights and becoming a social problem that need to be remedied, because it causes irreparable damage due to the different forms of violence in women.
Initially, domestic violence in Brazil, reporting the types of domestic violence described in the law, will then be
analyzed on the ineffectiveness of emergency protective measures.
