Abstract

The paper proposes a reflection on the nexus between editorial projects, elaborated through cultural policies, produced in the Brazilian scenario in the initial years of the Republic, and the publication of History textbooks. It takes as an axis of analysis the intellectual path of José Francisco da Rocha Pombo (1857-1933) to address issues related to the theme. Developed with intentions to contribute to the History of the School Discipline, it is attentive to the role of the intellectual in the configuration of a socio-professional identity that is constituted through editorial practices and a national didactic historiography in the troubled beginning of the Brazilian Republic in Rio de Janeiro. The path taken by Rocha Pombo is representative of editorial strategies produced as devices for the organization of rules for school practices that made it possible to trace the path of teacher professionalization in the course of the 20th century.
