Abstract

The foundation of São Paulo University, in the beginning of the decade of 1930, suffered disputes of projects for its  organization. The São Paulo Polytechnic School intended to become the nucleus of the coming institution. Meanwhile, the option adopted in 1934 imputed this duty to the newly created Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Literature, which provoked a strong reaction of the early professionalizing units that were connected to the university, specially in Polytechnic School. The present text intends to study the confl icts between São Paulo Polytechnic School and Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Literature during  the tumultuous beginnings of São Paulo University.
