Peer Review Process

Submitted works will be evaluated by at least two external reviewers (blind peer review), selected by specialty and/or affinity in relation to the thematic content under consideration.

The invitation will take reviewers directly to the review page for the submission in question (logging in is required to access other pages). To ensure the integrity of the blind peer review, authors are asked to pay attention to possible ways of revealing the author's identity in the manuscript or file recording. Reviewers are given a period of 15 calendar days to submit their review. This period may be extended for an equal period at the reviewer's request. Reviewers must disclose to the editors any conflicts of interest that may influence their opinions about the manuscript and declare themselves unqualified for evaluation if they see the need.

Reviewers must submit their opinion according to the following options: 1 - Accept; 2 - Suggest mandatory corrections; 3 - Resubmit for evaluation; 4 - Reject. In the event of conflicting evaluations, the manuscript will be forwarded to a third reviewer. In the case of approval conditional on changes being made, the Editorial Board asks authors to respond within 30 days to the reviewers' comments and to clearly indicate the changes made in the revised version of the text.

In order to guarantee the excellence of the editorial process, the 29 de Abril, Revista de História informs that it follows the guidelines of COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and promotes the verification of plagiarism, misconduct, fraud and possible breaches of ethics. We suggest that authors visit the COPE website (http://publicationethics.org) and check for information on research ethics. Before submission, we recommend that authors adhere to the following criteria:

1 - Free Papers, Reviews and First Steps articles that contain data acquisition or analysis and interpretation of data from other publications should explicitly indicate and reference them;

2 - When producing articles and reviews that critically review the content of other authors, these should be duly referenced;

3 - No researcher involved in writing the article should be omitted from the list of authors.

After acceptance and before publication, the articles can be checked again.

Adoption of similarity verification software

The 29 de Abril, Revista de História uses Turnitin to check similarity of all submitted manuscripts, and may also use generative AI tools for this purpose. Articles undergo this verification during the preliminary evaluation stage, carried out by the editors. In cases of detected similarity, the following measures will be taken:

  • Minor instances of self-plagiarism (excerpts from the author's previous works): authors will be asked to reformulate the text.
  • Significant similarity with third-party publications: the submission will be immediately rejected.
  • Proven plagiarism: authors will be subject to the sanctions provided for in the ethics policy.

  • We require authors who use AI tools to explicitly declare this use in their submission, detailing how, where, and for what purpose AI was employed.
  • The AI tool cannot be listed as a co-author of the article.
  • Responsibility for the content lies entirely with the human authors identified in the text.
  • We value originality of thought, critical analysis, and personal narrative style as essential elements of historiographical production.
