Sustainable Marketing in Retail: A Systematic Literature Review

Abstract

Green marketing is perceived as a company's or organization's commitment to the development of safe and environmentally friendly goods and services. In this sense, the purpose of this article is to analyze research on sustainable marketing practices in retail in the Web of Science database. For that, a systematic literature review was carried out with 22 articles on the subject. First, the results present a brief bibliometric review to identify the period of publications, journals, authors, and citations in other academic studies. Then, the themes identified from reading the articles are presented: responsible communication, sustainable marketing, green retail, corporate strategy, circular economy, and green brand reputation. Finally, guidelines are presented for future studies to expand the possibilities of research agendas on green marketing, green consumption and marketing strategies that can expand information on green products and, in this way, contribute to the maturation and knowledge of the benefits and relevance of the theme for consumers and companies. As an academic contribution, the systematic literature review provides a synthesized view of sustainable marketing in retail, facilitating the understanding of researchers in the area.
