Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission is original, unpublished and is not review by another journal. Otherwise, a justification must be provided in the "Comments to the Editor".
  • Submission files are in Microsoft Word docx format (as long as they do not exceed 5 MB).
  • The identification of the author of the work has been removed from the file and from the Properties option in Word, thus ensuring the journal's confidentiality criteria, if submitted for peer review (e.g.: articles), in according to the instructions available in Ensuring Blind Peer Review.
  • All authors must be listed with their PUBLIC assigned ORCID iDs. It must comply with their standards for expressing ORCID iDs and include the URL. These records must be complete (e.g.: http://orcid.org/0000-0002-1825-0097).
  • URLs for the references or their DOIs have been provided where necessary.
  • If the contribution used Generative AI (Artificial Intelligence) tools during the research, from planning, data analysis, discussion, writing of the article and grammatical correction, the Editor must be informed in “Comments to the Editor”.

Author Guidelines

The journal accepts scientific papers presenting original theoretical or empirical contributions related to teaching and learning in the fields of Science, Biology, Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, and related areas, in accordance with the journal's scope. The publication guidelines are available in the Template and on this website.

Submission Guidelines

The original articles must be submitted in Word for Windows or compatible software, using Times New Roman font, size 12, single spacing and must have 15 to 20 pages. Paper size is A4, with margins set as follows: 3 cm for the top and left margins and 2 cm for the bottom and right margins.

The journal accepts articles written in Portuguese, Spanish and English. Each submitted article for evaluation must include an abstract (maximum of 150 words) in Portuguese, Spanish and English as well as three to five keywords in all three languages. References and citations must follow the most current standards of the Brazilian Association of Technical Standards, specifically NBR6023 and NBR10520.

Tables, figures or images must be identified with a title above them, using arabic numerals preceded by the corresponding label (e.g.: Table, Figure), followed by a title, which is mandatory, all in a font size smaller than the main text. The source must be cited below the item, indicating the person responsible for the data, preceded by the word Source or Sources.

If the article results from undergraduate theses, master’s or doctoral research involving human participants, it must include approval from an Ethics Committee recognized by the Brazilian National Health Council, through the Brazil Plataform.

To comply current international standards for scientific publishing regarding authorship, the editorial board of Vitruvian Cogitationes Journal requires authors to provide their public ORCID ID during the submission process, as indicated in the article template. Editors, Scientific Committee members and ad hoc reviewers must also include their ORCID IDs in their profiles. The ORCID ID can be created quickly and freely at: https://orcid.org/register.

Authors must follow the updated 2024 article Template and rename the file with a short (simple) title to facilitate downloading and reading.

The first version of the article must be submitted without author identification in the Word file. All author information should be entered in the metadata fields during submission. If the main author is unable to do so, it is recommended to submit two versions of the article: one identified and one anonymous. Suggested file names: Article without ID and Article with ID.

ORCID Registration (Mandatory)

In the metadata fields, authors must insert the ORCID link in the designated field. The Lattes Curriculum link must also be included in the URL field.

Author Biographies and Institutional Affiliations

Insert the full name of the institution and its abbreviation, for example, Universidade Estadual de Maringá – UEM. In the “Biographical Summary” field, a brief description is recommended, such as: “Professor at Universidade Estadual de Maringá (UEM). Ph.D. in Teaching, Master’s in Education, Graduated in Physics” for faculty members. For students, use: “Ph.D. candidate in the Postgraduate Program in Science and Mathematics Education at Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Master’s in Science Teaching. Graduated in Chemistry”.

Keywords

The article must include three to five keywords, lowercase and separated by semicolons (;). In the submission form, they must be entered individually.

Funding Agencies – Acknowledgments

Works resulting from activities funded, fully or partially, by CAPES, such as postgraduate programs, must acknowledge the support received. The following expression must be used in the same language as the article, in the Acknowledgments section:

“This study was carried out with the support of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel – Brazil – Funding Code 001”.

Final Version Submission after Review

The submitting author must upload the final version of the article in Word format, with the required corrections made and with the authors information included, in the “Review – Upload File” section of the active submission.

Articles submitted as new submissions will be rejected to avoid duplication in the system.

Author Responsibilities

Manuscript Standards

Authors must present clear and precise writing, with data presented objectively. The manuscript must include theoretical background, description, methodology, results and references, providing adequate support for the study’s aims and arguments. The methodology must be clear enough to allow replication by other researchers. Fabricated or disconnected results will not be accepted.

Originality and Plagiarism

The manuscripts must be unpublished and all sources must be properly cited. Excerpts or ideas from other authors must be referenced correctly. Biographical descriptions of researchers must be authorized by the individuals concerned. Any form of plagiarism will result in article rejection.

Multiple or Redundant Publications

Simultaneous submission of the same article to multiple journals is not allowed. Duplicate publication is unethical and will lead to rejection. Authors may withdraw their manuscript prior to publication, if necessary.

Source Acknowledgment

All research-relevant sources must be cited. Data obtained through interviews, surveys or third-party observations must be authorized. Authors must adhere to ethical research standards, submitting their study to an ethics committee when applicable. Articles derivated from theses and dissertations must be clearly explainded.

Authorship

Authorship must be attributed only to those who made a significant contribution to the planning, execution and writing of the study. All listed authors must approve the final version before submission.

Conflicts of Interest and Funding

Authors must ensure the impartiality of their work and disclose any conflicts of interest with the journal or involved institutions. Any financial support must be acknowledged in the manuscript.

Corrections and Retractions

If errors are identified after publication, authors must promptly notify the editorial team to provide corrections or retractions as needed.

Ethical Guidelines for Authors

  • Check the journal’s scope and guidelines before submission.
  • Ensure the article is original and not a translation of previously published work or a duplicate content already published.
  • Choose between continuous flow or thematic dossier according to the specific rules of each section.
  • Follow Research Ethics Committee requirements for studies involving humans or animals, including protocol number in the methodology section.
  • Declare funding sources without including dedications or acknowledgments in the manuscript.
  • Do not commit plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication or image manipulation.
  • Notify the editors about any necessary corrections prior to publication.
  • Post-publication changes must be requested via the journal’s official email.
  • Provide ORCID ID and institutional affiliation.

Peer Review Process

Manuscripts will be evaluated by external reviewers with doctoral degrees in the related field, affiliated with national or international academic or research institutions with proven scientific production. Manuscripts will be accepted upon receiving two favorable reviews and rejected if both reviews are negative. If there is one favorable and one negative review, a third reviewer will be assigned.
