Women in Science: a brief history and reflections on policies and the work environment

Abstract

The present text aims to present a brief history of the struggle of women in a field as difficult as the work environment in Science. Some fights and names will be explored, as well as some legal issues related to the theme of female protagonism. The increase in this role will also be discussed, in addition to the discussion of social spaces dichotomized and naturalized by a masculine reasoning that especially impact the areas of Physics and Engineering. It is highlighted the fact that women in the sphere of science are not released from their responsibilities as mothers, with the care of the house, persisting there a sexual division of labor generating an excessive working day, which ends up discouraging the necessary protagonism that has been taking place. But still lacking public policies that support and catapult it to a higher level than the current levels of the job market. It is therefore necessary to take as a starting point the continuation and deepening of the debate regarding the role of women in Labor Law, in Science and in work environments in general.
