Abstract

The efficiency of the map as a means of communication is evaluated. Based on the works of researchers linked to cartographic communication, thematic maps on the urban area of the city of Maringá PR Brazil were elaborated and evaluated. Three methods were used for their elaboration - Chorochromatic, Monochromatic and J. Bertin's. Questionnaires were given to undergraduate students of the Geography course at the State University of Maringá for the verification of the maps. While undertaking a comparative analysis among methods, research sought the best representation form and demonstrated that the process of transmission of cartographic information was linked to the production phase of the maps and their reading

    Possui graduação em Engenharia Cartográfica pela Universidade Federal do Paraná (1986), graduação em Letras pela Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná (1981), mestrado em Geografia (Geografia Fí­sica) pela Universidade de São Paulo (1994) e doutorado em Geografia pela Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (2005). Atualmente é professor não titular da Universidade Estadual de Maringá. Tem experiência na área de Geociências, com ênfase em Cartografia Temática, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: cartografia, mapeamento, córrego Mandacaru, Maringá e diagnóstico Currí­culo Lattes
