An analysis of Newton's argument on absolute space is provided. The equation of the parable is given by describing the water surface from a rotating bucket related to the Earth. This rotation generates a trend by which the water recedes from the axis of its motion, or in the classic Latin allusion: conatus recedenti ab axe motus. The theme and its implications will be discussed from the point of view of the teaching of PhysicsDownloads
