Abstract

This work was carried out at Faculdade de Ciências Agrárias e Veterinárias, Unesp, Campus of Jaboticabal, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The germination of wild sweet sop seeds was studied in different substrates, as well as its effectiveness as a rootstock for custard apple. The seeds were extracted from ripe fruits, washed, dried in sunless place and then treated with benomyl 1%. The seeds were planted in plastic boxes with the following substrates: vermiculite medium granules, Plantmax®, mixed substrate (soil, sand and manure) and sand. The evaluation occurred 78 days after sowing. Grafting occurred when the nursery plants were one year old. The different methods were: grafting with pliers, manual grafting; inverted-T bud and simple English grafting. The evaluations occurred 55 days after grafting. Sand was the best for germination, although it was not statistically different from the mixed substrate. The grafting methods studied had low efficiency, showing no difference between treatments.
