Abstract
The second novella of Dusklands, of South African J. M. Coetzee, entitled The Narrative of Jacobus Coetzee, is analyzed in the light of post-colonial theory. The text narrates the frustrated expedition of Dutch explorer Jacobus Coetzee to the unknown lands of South Africa in the 18th century. The theory of othering reveals the strategies used to other the natives, to justify the usurpation of the lands and the revenge against them. These strategies were used to subdue the natives with the purpose of extracting the natural wealth of the land.Downloads
