Abstract
Higher education institutions, by functioning in a competitive environment, are subjected to fluctuations in the demand of their academic programs. The purpose of this research is to examine the Animal Husbandry program of a private university in Paraná, seeking strategies that lead towards its feasibility. This research is characterized as a case study. Data were collected by applying a questionnaire to 33 faculty members and two administrators. For the majority (90%) of the respondents, the program is central to the mission of the university. Attractiveness was considered a strategic element, while prestige and reputation of the university the most relevant factors. Analysis revealed that the program is functioning in a competitive environment where there are two other similar programs. The need to improve the management of the program especially in areas such as marketing, academic quality and integration between institutional policies and management of the program is stressed.Downloads
