Abstract
The article presents an analysis, within the initial grades of fundamental teaching, concerning teachers’ subjective political orientations, understood as political socialization agents. The aim is to establish a relationship between these agents’ political culture and the process of stabilization and consolidation of the democratic system in Brazil. In order to achieve this purpose, the first section presents theoretical concepts and principles which guided the present research. The second section shows some quantitative and qualitative data with regard to teachers' values and political beliefs, trying to identify to what extent they adhere to an abstract dimension of democracy. The subsequent section presents some data related to confidence and institutional evaluation. The final section proceeds with data analysis, aiming the possibility of political socialization leading developing generations of teachers into a political culture which may be congruent with democracy.Downloads
