<b>Differential between levels of income by gender in the brazilian midwestern region
Abstract
The labor market may be a method to measure gender discrimination in the economy. Current article analyzes the difference between gender and yield classification in the Midwestern region ofBrazil in 2004 and 2009. The National Household Sample Survey (Pnad) microdata and the quantile regression method for 10, 25, 50, 75 and 90th percentiles of income distribution were employed. Results showed that, regardless of the quantiles, males have a higher income than females, and that higher education returns occur within the higher income brackets. Earnings differential may therefore arise from innate characteristics, such as gender, as well as personal choices, such as education.
