Characterizing the good native language learner
Abstract
Knowing the characteristics of a good learner of native language enables the teacher to increase his/her knowledge on the teaching-learning process, change his/her theoretical and pedagogical practice and help other learners. In order to answer the question “What are the characteristics of a good learner of native language?”, an investigation has been carried out in the Arts/Language Course (“Letras”) at Universidade Estadual de Maringá, Maringá, Paraná, Brazil, in 1995, choosing an undergraduate student as subject. The aim of the investigation was to find the characteristics of the good learner and their implication in teaching and learning the native language. Applied Linguistics supplied the theoretical support. Besides the eight proposed by theory, results demonstrated the existence of fifteen other characteristics.Downloads
