Reflections on cultural environment
Abstract
We propose a reflection on the definition of natural environment to the core of the debate on culture. Therefore, we depart from a constitutional perspective. The constitution has legally established the cultural environment in order to ensure a protection of the material or immaterial cultural heritage that distinguishes the Brazilian people in its entirety or its social, ethnical or regional differences. After a legal discussion, we foster a further development on the cultural environment in order to understand its meaning and role in addition to think about social and methodological issues concerning cultural heritage so that it will not become a hidden form of dominance by the constituted powers and of negligence of the diversity that shapes our identity.
