For the history of ‘auxiliary verb’ and ‘verbal periphrasis’ in the metalinguistic discourse of Portuguese published between 1536 e 1870
Abstract
This paper is intended to contribute to the history of the ‘auxiliary verb’ and ‘verbal periphrasis’ in the history of the metalanguage of Portuguese in texts published between 1536 and 1870. It is based on the theoretical assumptions of Historical Linguistics and observes the methodological principle related to respect for the terminology adopted by the authors of the scrutinized works, in relation to which an attempt was made to maintain an epistemological equidistance capable of guaranteeing the accurate description and explanation, whenever possible, of the (meta)linguistic facts.
