Abstract

In such a mixed, changeable and multiple social and cultural scene, more and more artistic works reread, reinterpret and retake humanistic themes of the past. With regard to literary studies, such relations, which are never unidirectional and always dialectic, retake and reapproximate cultures and knowledges. When we think about the influence of texts of the past in literary compositions of our time, the Biblical text presents an inexhaustible source of ideas, concepts and histories that inspire, even today, the mind of different writers. This influence of Biblical text is present both in modern authors such as Franz Kafka, Herman Melville and Jose Saramago, and in classic authors like Dante Alighieri, John Milton and Luiz de Camões. This paper presents an interpretation of the name of the character Daniel Abraão based on Jewish Biblical culture. Being the protagonist of the novel A Ferro e Fogo I: Tempo de Solidão, by southern Brazilian author Josué Guimarães, such a character is constructed as a paradigm of the frustrated migratory hope represented by the German people in Brazil.
