Performance in reading in the final grades of the primary level schooling - DOI: 10.4025/actascilangcult.v30i2.698
Abstract
This article discusses the reading practices in primary education, having as presupposition the discursive conception of reading. This work aims at presenting a diagnosis of the reading competence of students in the final grades of the primary level schooling, in the municipality of Irati, in the state of Paraná, with the objective of contributing to a critical reflection about the quality of reading of these students. Thus, questionnaires devised on reading, applied from the fourth to the eight grade of primary education, were described and analyzed. The results show that the majority of the students, mainly the ones from lower social classes, do not achieve good performance in reading. This finding is worrying, considering that the bad performance in reading interferes in all the curricular activities, affecting the textual production and the establishment of relations among the learned contents.
