Certainties under suspicion: motherhood in debate in recent Brazilian literature by women
Abstract
Regarding the direction of recent Brazilian literature by women, which permeates female trajectories that explore feminist subversions and deconstruct traditional gender paradigms, this article aims to reflect on the representation of motherhood, an issue frequently discussed in the extra-literary reality, though not always from a liberating perspective. The intention is to shed light on novels that set out to problematize the myth of maternal love, in Badinter's (1985) terms, by promoting cracks in the idea of maternal instinct or women's unconditional vocation to motherhood. Andrea O’Reilly's (2016) matricentric feminism provides a theoretical foundation for this reflection.
