Abstract

Results of surveys from different agencies which evaluate the development of our country or which detail the reading competence of Brazilians allow us to say that there is a correlation between aspects of socioeconomic conjuncture and the mastering of reading. This correlation points to the necessity of changes which consider education as based on reading and aesthetic experience as the way for the humanization of the persons from which springs out the true social development. However, in order to achieve this goal, having redefined the face of Brazilian reality, it is indispensable to proceed to face the cultural crisis which interferes negatively in the formation of readers and which is responsible for the disreputability of the literary text as an opportunity of learning and knowledge.

Juracy Ignez Assmann Saraiva, Centro Universitário Feevale

Atualmente, é professora e pesquisadora no Centro Universitário Feevale, em Novo Hamburgo, onde também exerce a função de assessora da Pró-Reitoria de Pesquisa, Tecnologia e Inovação. É membro do Comitê Interdisciplinar da Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Rio Grande do Sul e consultora das secretarias de Educação das prefeituras de Dois Irmãos e de Morro Reuter, sendo responsável pelo desenvolvimento de programas de leitura e de escrita. Suas pesquisas na área de Letras concentram-se na obra de Machado de Assis e na metodologia do ensino de literatura. Em 2007, recebeu o Troféu Pena Libertária, relativo ao Prêmio Educação RS na Categoria profissional, pelo trabalho de formação de leitores e de estímulo às políticas públicas educacionais voltadas para a leitura e o Prêmio Paulo Freire - Destaque Esteio, pelo desenvolvimento de um programa de leitura em escola da rede municipal.
