Abstract

This paper aims to investigate the status of language in the novel Caetés by Graciliano Ramos, through an analysis of the failure on writing experienced by the character João Valério. The meaning of Caetés Indians, their wild nature, and the revealing role of the human condition will be highlighted. For that, the analysis and interpretation of the novel also counts with the theoretical contribution of philosophical hermeneutics.

João Paulo Ayub, Universidade Federal de Goiás

Graduado em Ciências Sociais (2006) e Mestre em Sociologia (2009) pela Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais - UFMG. Doutor em Ciências Sociais pela Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp). Tem experiência nas áreas de Antropologia, Sociologia, Literatura e Ciência Política. Trabalhou com os temas do poder, biopolítica, governo de si e dos outros no pensamento de Michel Foucault durante a formação em Ciências Sociais e o Mestrado em Sociologia. Desenvolveu em sua Tese de Doutorado um estudo sobre a condição humana na literatura de Graciliano Ramos.
