Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in the world, in Brazil its main manifestation is coronary artery disease. Lifestyle and dietary pattern appear to be the main determinants of the manifestation of cardiometabolic risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. This study aimed at the use of Brazilian cardioprotective diet. For its accomplishment a systemic revision was done on the Brazilian cardioprotective diet and cardioprotective foods. We found 40 studies indexed in the main databases, which approached cardioprotective diet, among which 20 articles published in the last 20 years were selected. The terms used for the bibliographic survey were "diet", "cardiovascular health", "physical exercise", "aging" and "nutritional status". In addition, the evolution of mortality due to cardiovascular problems in Brazil and in the World, the social condition of the analyzed populations, changes in eating habits, as well as the way to seek preventive care that improve cardiovascular health in the general population was addressed.
