THE FEMALE PRESENCE IN THE ENTRANCE EXAMINATIONS FOR THE DEGREE COURSE IN CHEMISTRY AT THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF MARINGÁ IN THE LAST DECADE

Abstract

The participation of women in Higher Education institutions has increased in recent years, however this presence has not been uniform in all areas. In this mixed research, which uses documentary study methodology, a survey was conducted with the aim of identifying the female presence among those approved in the entrance exams for the Full Degree course in Chemistry at the State University of Maringá. The analysis focused on the percentages of women who passed the aforementioned course between 2012 and 2022. The information was acquired through access to the website of the committee responsible for conducting processes relating to entrance exams. The study explored the number of candidates who participated and were approved in the selection processes, covering both the winter and summer entrance exams, as well as the Serial Assessment Process. The results revealed that throughout this interval, women maintained a considerable presence among those approved. This points to the interest and conquest of space by women in Science. However, it is important to highlight that during the pandemic period, a notable reduction in the general number of candidates was observed, also affecting female participation.
