Foto: March for the End of Violence against Girls and Women
The March for the End of Violence against Women and Girls took to the streets of several Brazilian capitals at the end of November 2025, a period when the news was overflowing with grave cases that add to the epidemic of femicides in the country. The photograph captures a fragment of this mobilisation in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina. Beneath the historic Hercílio Luz Bridge, a procession unfolds as a living current of resistance, carrying protest messages that demand freedom, dignity, and guaranteed rights for all women and girls. In particular, the placard bearing the phrase “Teach men to respect” serves as an urgent call for education towards gender equity — a summons for men also to assume their responsibility in building a society free from machismo, actively promoting masculinities grounded in respect, care, and empathy.
