Abstract

This paper reports an experience with groups of adolescents in a Basic Health Care Unit, during Supervised Internship, throughout the eighth semester of Undergraduate Nursing Course at Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, located in a city in the South of Brazil. Data were collected through the accomplishment of ludic and pedagogical activities with groups of adolescents, based on participative methodology. Themes were previously chosen by the adolescents. The number of adolescents participating in such groups was small, totalizing eight or nine members in each group. Thirty-eight adolescents participated assiduously on the activities. All participants were motivated to multiply knowledge acquired during the meetings. This experience emphasizes the importance of health education as an instrument to exchange experiences and to empower the participants, mainly concerning this population, who have only recently have received special attention. Moreover, the relevance of the new perception of the role of the nurse regarding the health of adolescents is highlighted.
