Specialization course as instrument of intervention in the assistance in neonatology

Abstract

This research paper describes the implementation of the first three Specialization Courses in Neonatology Nursing, offered by the School of Nursing of Federal University of Bahia. The main purpose of the courses was to enable nurses to provide assistance to newborn infants. However, the courses became instrumental also for the implantation of actions aiming at the improvement of quality aid to newborn infants. The methodology strategy used in the teaching-learning process was the Pedagogy of Problematization by Bordenave (1988). At the end of the third specialization course, 59 specialist nurses were qualified in neonatology, contributing to the development of updating courses for technical professionals through the discipline “Pedagogic Training”. Diagnoses of neonatology units in 17 hospitals and/or maternities of Salvador and vicinity, in which measures were implanted for the improvement of the quality of the attendance rendered to the newborn infants and their parents were also performed.

Possui graduação em Enfermagem pela Faculdade Adventista de Enfermagem (1975), mestrado em Enfermagem pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (1990) e doutorado em Saúde Pública pela Universidade de São Paulo (1996). Atualmente é professor associado nível 01 da Escola de enfermagem da Universidade Federal da Bahia. Tem experiência na área de Enfermagem, com ênfase em Enfermagem Pediátrica, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: enfermagem, educação e saúde, violência, e saúde da população negra.
