SOCIAL CARTOGRAPHY IN THE PRO-MANGUEZAIS PROJECT IN ALAGOAS
OUTLINED THEORETICAL-METHODOLOGICAL PATHWAYS
Abstract
Aiming to contribute to the restoration of degraded areas and the environmental preservation and conservation of mangroves in the state of Alagoas, the EducAPA Project partnered with the Pró-Manguezais Project, coordinated by the Federal Public Prosecutor's Office (MPF-AL) and the Public Prosecutor's Office of the State of Alagoas (MPE-AL), to structure and conduct social cartography workshops. The question thus arose: What social cartography techniques would be appropriate for conducting diagnosis, prognosis, and participatory environmental planning, and promoting environmental education in the pilot areas of the Pró-Manguezais Project located in the municipalities of Marechal Deodoro and Barra de São Miguel? This article aims to present the theoretical and methodological proposal for structuring social cartography workshops, observing their relevance to the territory, both in terms of mangrove ecosystems and the agents and social actors involved in the process of occupation, use, and regulation of the territory. We adopted action research and social cartography as our methodological foundation, and government planning, environmental education, environmental management tools, and social technologies as our theoretical foundation. It is hoped that, in addition to fostering the production of technical and scientific knowledge, the proposal presented here will generate products that support the work of Pró-Manguezais and the achievement of its objectives.
