Abstract

This article examines the educational policy implemented during
the presidencies of Mitre and Domingo F. Sarmiento. It also
explains the social orientation that these presidents tried to give
to education in each period as well as the limits of Sarmiento's
proposal. We conducted an analysis comparing the situation in
different provinces, as well as the study of the reports submitted
by the ministers who held office during both presidencies. For
this approach a statistical analysis based on the budgetary and
material growth of the national education system during the
period and a study of the unsolved needs. The aim is to show the
impulse given to education and its boundaries against the budget
