Abstract

There are different methods developed to aid decision makers. Multicriteria processes are emphasized and demand adequate analysis and synthesis of the available information. Objective and subjective variables (for instance: cost, perception, quantities, productivity and environment) must be simplified in order to obtain the best solution. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) provides a good answer for the quantitative measurement in multivariable decision problems. The method allows decomposition and synthesis of selected criteria, in a comparative process with prioritization of the best alternative. In this paper the AHP method was applied for the selection of a solid waste truck-compactor.
