Abstract

In this research, effective heat transfer properties were evaluated in a fixed bed dryer packed with soybeans, fitting a bidimensional pseudo-homogeneous model to the experimental temperature profiles, obtained from a fixed bed dryer, heated by the wall and by the injected air, at steady state conditions with various air flow rates. The results reveal that both thermal parameters: effective radial conductivity (Kr) and wall heat transfer coefficient (hw) may be represented as an increasing and linear function of air flow rate, practically independent of the soybeans equilibrium moisture content within the range of experimental conditions used.
