Abstract

Through a critical reading of Gonçalves Dias’s and Mario de Andrade’s homonymous poems O trovador [The Troubadour], factors indicating similar rebel manifestations in two different periods are identified. These elements reveal the contradictory movement, containing both Romanticism and Modernism, between a return to ancient sources and aspirations to modernity.
