Abstract

The use of social networks has become routine for the majority of the world's population, approaching practically all types of subjects. Despite the relevance of social networks in society, the use of these means to communicate and disseminate science still needs to be better understood and explored. Understanding the benefits that the use of social networks by journals can bring to all those involved can reinforce the use of these spaces for dissemination and scientific communication. In this context, this article proposes to analyze the presence of journals in the field of biotechnology on Instagram. The ten journals with the highest score on the Scopus (2023) website were selected, checking which ones had an Instagram profile followed by behavior analysis and engagement rates. Three of these journals have profiles and two show good engagement results in their posts. Even though journals still have a timid presence on social networks such as Instagram, good results were observed when using this platform to communicate and disseminate science. Therefore, the public's interest in consuming scientific content on these networks is evident, strengthening the work of journals and researchers and contributing to the dissemination of information.
