Abstract

This article presents an analysis of Angela Carter’s short story Our Lady of the Massacre (1979), set during the North American colonial period. Drawing on postcolonial theory (ASHCROFT et al., 1991), we develop an intercultural perspective of the encounter between the white European protagonist and the Algonkian ‘Red Indians’. Our aim is to demonstrate that the protagonist’s characterization is based on the process of transculturation, using as an argument the fact that throughout her life and experience among Native-Americans, her view of the threatening Other shifts towards a sharp criticism of her own original culture.

Tem experiência na área de Letras, com ênfase em Pós-Colonialismo, religiosidade, cultura e literatura judaica e afro-brasileira. Possui experiência na docência da Língua Inglesa. Recebeu o prêmio de melhor pesquisa científica no " III Encontro de Iniciação Científica do Cesumar ", representando assim, a universidade na 59a e 60a Reunião Anual da SBPC. Participa do NEAA (Núcleo de Estudos Afro-Asiáticos) e do LERR ( laboratório de Estudos de Religião e Religiosidade)da Universidade Estadual de Londrina, além de ser membro de dois grupos de pesquisa.
