Discursive tradition for what? Contributions to a linguistic-discursive approach to writing acquisition
Abstract
The objective of this paper is to provide a contribution by proposing an approach to the stable-unstable relationship of language from a linguistic-discursive perspective of writing acquisition. The theoretical approach is built upon the association of foundations for reflecting on the way of functioning of language, text and discourse. It departs from the conception of constitutively heterogeneous writing (Corrêa, 1997, 2004, 2013), in order to propose a critical dialog with the assumptions that define the concept of discursive tradition (DT) (see Kabatek, 2004a, 2004b, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2012 and Koch, 2008), in Historical Linguistics, specifically from three central aspects of the definition of Coserian language theory: the understandings of historical and social language and the understanding of language as an activity. As a result of this discussion, the final considerations propose that the concept of DT be understood as belonging to the scope of the notion of concrete statement (verbal and real/virtual communication unit), characterized by the trait of repeatability, that is, of what is fixed – stable – and incomplete – unstable – in language. In other words, it is about bringing otherness in its strong sense (Corrêa, 2013) into the scope of writing acquisition through the adopted concept of writing, and, with it, the constitutive exteriority of the writing process.
