Abstract

Owing to different uses assigned to the term, where has been the object of several studies. Investigations have also been made on issues with regard to its grammatical class, the adverbs, in which traditionally the term has been inserted. Important issues are raised on the adverbs, among which the traditional definition, the historical issues that pervade its concept, the problems associated with this tradition and other definitions based on functional studies. The literature related to the term where is provided, coupled to a description of its origin, its possible morphological and syntactical classifications (adverb/pronoun) and some stances attributed to it by researchers as from discussions with distinct synchronies corpora
