Abstract

O presente artigo tem por objetivo analisar a obra Crônica do Sereníssimo Príncipe D. João, escrita por Damião de Góis (1502-1574), importante figura do Humanismo português. A análise destaca a relação entre a pedagogia política e a pedagogia religiosa no século XVI, no contexto da própria configuração do Portugal moderno. Damião de Góis representa a face modernizadora do Humanismo em Portugal, sendo assim, essa foi a principal razão da perseguição que o levou à morte. Sua obra pode ser considerada como um dos mais importantes "documentos" da instauração da modernidade em Portugal.
