PUBLIC EDUCATION IN THE PROVINCE OF PARANA

Abstract
This study deals with education in the province of Parana during 1870 to Proclamation of the Republic. Its basic source is the work of Primitivo Moacyr subsidized by the following guiding questions: What were the main purposes which guided the spread of public education by the provincial governmentand the elite? Inherent in such a question, there-s another one: what prevented the spread of public education? The study refers to the developed project on Primitivo Moacyr within the Graduate Program in Education at the State University of Maringa, Pr and the research group "History of Education, Intellectuals and Institutions" and the group of GEPEDUC research at the State University of Northern Parana. The text is organized into two sections: "General characteristics of the work of Primitivo Moacyr" as the memory of Brazilian education, and "Public education in the province of Parana" centered in outstanding notes by the author over the course of instruction in the province of Parana. The study reveals the way impeding factors, the spread of public education, the lack of an organized system of education in the province and the country, the fragility of the budget and resources allocated to pay the maintenance costs of public schooling, the extent and scope of the new territorial province.Downloads
