<b>Autonomy in the rural school: the liberal and socialist perspectives
Abstract
Active School, which has been implemented for more than a decade in rural areas of Brazil, is a program that aims to improve the quality of multigrade schools presenting a proposal that intends to reorganize pedagogical work and school management. The program has foundations in neoliberalism and in New School. It has arrived in Brazil through education reforms financed by the World Bank.ith respect to school management, one of his main points is the development of student autonomy through instruments of participative management. The concepts that loads, such as autonomy, self organization and collective, are present in socialist ideals, which leads us to believe that these are reinterpreted in the light of the Active School. Thus, the aim of this paper is to discuss these concepts brought by the program from the Marxist educational theories and try to answer the question: what kind of autonomy the Active School can help rural students to develop?
