Abstract

This article is part of a post-doctoral project that developed at the University of Lisbon, with financial support from the CNPq, with the aim of understanding the process of organizing education in Brazil and Portugal, as well as analyze the actions taken by the respective States and the Catholic Church, in addition to political and ideological intentions of these instances of promoting education. As a result there is the redefinition of strategies in public and religious authorities in  the period of struggle for re in the two countries, there is a plurality of Catholics in the assumption of ideological and partisan preferences in a competitive election.
