Teaching and tutoring: dialogues and tensions
Abstract
This paper aims to investigate the role of the teacher-tutor online in the scenario of Distance Education, in
view of the expansion of this modality in the field of higher education, considering the constant innovation of
Information Technology and Communication. This is a relevant and significant relevance in view of the
growth of this sport in recent years, both as a percentage of enrollment courses. This text is an excerpt from a
larger study, developed a private institution of higher education Distance, with the subject teachers / tutors
and students of Pedagogy and Administration. Studies of teaching and / or teacher-tutor has revealed key
features to the process of teaching and learning in Virtual Environment. When dealing with the teaching in
the field of distance education, some tensions are evident mainly in the role of tutor online, suggesting the
expansion and finding new meanings for the roles of the teacher-tutor in cyberspace. It is noteworthy, in
actuality, that online tutoring is conquering new spaces, and merging with the teacher and educator, and
therefore drives the debate and studies on different dimensions. We conclude that there is an evident need to
assign the tutor, new perspectives of pedagogical mediation, ie, give the tutor, the same powers of teaching,
the teacher. Discourse of students and teachers, subjects in this study highlighted the need for new challenges
and new meanings about the tutor and teaching, in order to cope with the current demands of Distance
Education.
