Abstract

This review critically examines the unauthorized biography Suzane: assassina e manipuladora, by Ullisses Campbell, within the context of the growth of the true crime genre in Brazil and the transformation of crime into a form of entertainment. The analysis addresses the author’s narrative bias, which tends toward the fictionalization of a human being and her life story, as well as toward a symbolic form of punishment that exceeds the limits of the criminal justice system. The review also discusses the media exploitation of the Richthofen family case and its legal implications, particularly regarding the perpetuation of punishment beyond the criminal sentence, personality rights, and freedom of expression.
