A Supervisor’s Letter

Research as an Act of Listening and Affection

Keywords: Academic Writing, Feminism, Intellectual Autonomy

Abstract

In the book Carta de uma orientadora, Débora Diniz presents a welcoming and politically engaged form of writing about academic practice that goes beyond methodological advice. With an affective yet critical approach, the work is addressed to students and researchers at both the beginning and more advanced stages of their careers, especially women, seeking to construct a narrative that intertwines listening, care, writing practices, and power relations within research environments. Using accessible language, Diniz advocates for an epistemology of tenderness and proposes that academic writing be more than a technical exercise, it should also be an act of courage and collective construction.
