A Vulnerabilidade e a Resiliência do Idoso no Consumo de Crédito

Abstract

This research aimed to understand the vulnerability experiences faced by the elderly in credit consumption. To this end, a qualitative research was conducted based on 15 interviews with elderly consumers. Individual, family and macro-environmental pressures were evidenced, due to age, low literacy and persuasion from friends and relatives. In addition, financial institutions adopt harmful practices against the elderly consumer. Basic consumption needs, such as buying food and paying off debts, served as trigger events for any vulnerability experiences. However, it was found that respondents are resilient when consuming this service, avoiding experiences of vulnerability.
