Tetraphenylporphyrin (5,10,15,20 meso-tetraphenylporphyrin, TPP) complexes containing copper (II) [CuII(TPP)] and iron (III) [FeIII(TPP)Cl] have been investigated as catalysts in the direct oxidation of benzene to phenol, utilizing tert-butyl hydroperoxide and hydrogen peroxide, in liquid phase. The catalysts have been prepared by methods described in the literature and have been characterized by a variety of methods, presented in this work. The most promising catalytic system was [FeIII(TPP)Cl] with hydrogen peroxide, in acetonitrile. Various reaction parameters such as molar ratio of substrate, molar ratio of oxidant, catalyst concentration and reaction temperature have been studied. The effect of oxidant and the role of solvent are discussed in the present work.Downloads
