Abstract

Vico took into account many issues that belonged to the Republic of Letters, especially those posited by the struggle between Ancients and Moderns, which raised several debates among learned men, in the early Eighteenth Century. Employing his wit to solve the Homeric question, his solution was new and disrupted with both Ancients and Moderns. Vico denied that the Homeric poetry was philosophy or the result of some refined reflection. However, he claimed it was excellent for its poetic force and as a historical anthropological treasure.
